Food Sovereignty

"The state can't give you freedom, and the state can't take it away. You're born with it, like your eyes, like your ears. Freedom is something you assume, then you wait for someone to try to take it away. The degree to which you resist is the degree to which you are free...." ~Utah Phillips . When you engage in foraging, you engage in resistance...you reclaim a piece of freedom for yourself. Wild currants were one of my birthday bounties this year. For the first few days of my 44th year, I gifted myself with continued rememberance and cultivation of sovereignty by foraging wildfood and wildmedicine in the Colorado mountains . Red currants are high in antioxidants, Vitamin C and dietary fiber. They also contain significant amounts of potassium ( heart health ) and Vitamin K, which helps retain calcium in the bone matrix.
